Hurricane Katrina devastated my family. Not only is my Mom from New Orleans, but I had family living there at the time of the hurricane who lost both their homes and lives. I saw what climate change can do, and I do not want that to happen to any one else.

I have taken the steps to be a more environmentally responsible person at home. I convinced my parents to buy local produce. We now walk to the store, and anywhere else we can (I am lucky enough to live in an urban environment where there is a lot of public transportation, and you can feasibly go a day without driving your car). We own a hybrid Highlander and are trying to replace our other car with some sort of hybrid. We use efficient windows, appliances, and CFLs. I just convinced my Grandma to get a tankless water heater, which is very energy efficient. I work for a company during the summer that is an environmental marketing consulting firm. I would say that I’m more environmentally responsible at the moment than socially responsible. I do have big ideas of trying to grow vegetables in my “zen garden” of a backyard and make my own clothes by learning how to sew and knit. This would save me a lot of money on organic vegetables and Stella McCartney clothes.

Not your typical granola head.
