Astri von Arbin Ahlander was born in Stockholm, Sweden, but moved with her diplomat family to the Soviet Union when she was four years old. When her father was re-stationed, the family picked up again, moving this time to New York City where they lived for six years before returning to Stockholm. While five years at home in Sweden—with summers in France mixed in— made Astri more and more rooted in Europe, her constant longing for the USA made her itch to go back. This led her to Middlebury College to get her BA with a double major in English and Film and Media Culture. At Middlebury, Astri cultivated a passion for writing and filmmaking that she hopes to pursue in the future as she embarks on a career of creative activism- using visual storytelling as well as the written word to work for the issues that fire her up. First out is the awareness raising research project, The Lattice Group, which Astri has founded together with another recent Middlebury College graduate. Through her work with The Lattice Group, Astri hopes to engage young people around the world with issues of gender equity and sustainable work-life balance. Here, her language skills will come in handy. Astri speaks English, Swedish, French and Spanish.
